Author Guidelines

Safīnah: Indonesian Journal of Sharia and Islamic Sciences publishes original and high-quality scholarly manuscripts focusing on Islamic studies and Sharia sciences. The journal welcomes contributions in all areas of Islamic scholarship, including, but not limited to, Islamic law (fiqh and usul al-fiqh), Qur’anic studies, Hadith studies, Islamic theology, Islamic philosophy, Sufism (tasawwuf), Islamic education, Islamic economics and finance, Islamic ethics, Islamic history and civilization, Islamic politics, contemporary Islamic thought, and interdisciplinary studies related to Islam and Sharia.

All submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by any other journal.

Submission Procedure

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal’s Online Journal System (OJS). Authors are required to register prior to submission and strictly follow all instructions provided on the OJS platform. Submissions that do not comply with these guidelines may be returned to the authors for revision before entering the peer-review process.

Manuscript Format

  • Paper size: A4, single-column

  • Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides

  • Line spacing: 1

  • Length: Maximum 20 pages (including tables, figures, and references)

  • Font: Times New Roman

    • Main text: 11 pt

    • Tables, figures, and references: 11 pt

    • Headings: 12–14 pt

Title, Abstract, and Keywords

  • Title: Maximum 12 words (English)

  • Author information: Author names without academic titles; institutional affiliation and email address are required

  • Abstract: Written in both English and Indonesian (maximum 200 words), clearly presenting the research background, objectives, Islamic or Sharia issues examined, methodology, main findings, and conclusions

  • Keywords: Up to 5 keywords reflecting the core Islamic and Sharia themes of the manuscript

Article Structure

  1. Introduction
    Presents the research background, formulation of Islamic or Sharia problems, research objectives, significance of the study, and relevant literature review in Islamic studies (15–20%).

  2. Methodology
    Describes the research approach (normative, textual, doctrinal, empirical, historical, or mixed methods), data sources (classical texts, legal materials, and field data), data collection techniques, and analytical methods (10–15%).

  3. Results and Discussion
    Presents research findings and critically discusses them in relation to Islamic theories, classical and contemporary scholars, Sharia principles, primary sources (the Qur’an and Hadith), and previous studies in Islamic sciences.

  4. Conclusion
    Summarizes key findings, theoretical and practical implications for Islamic scholarship and Sharia development, study limitations, and recommendations for future research in Islamic and Sharia sciences.

References

  • References and in-text citations must follow APA Style (7th Edition)

  • At least 80% of references should be published within the last 10 years, prioritizing peer-reviewed journal articles, classical Islamic sources, authoritative fiqh texts, academic books, and other reputable scholarly sources

  • The use of reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote is strongly recommended

Review Articles

Review articles should include the following sections: Introduction, Theoretical or Conceptual Framework, Critical Analysis or Discussion, and Conclusion. Review manuscripts must demonstrate strong analytical depth, originality, and relevance to the advancement of Islamic and Sharia scholarship.

Checklist Before Submission

Before submitting a manuscript, authors must ensure that:

  • The manuscript complies with these Author Guidelines;

  • The work is original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere;

  • References are complete and formatted according to APA Style (7th Edition);

  • Tables, figures, and illustrations are clear, properly numbered, and cited in the text;

  • Necessary permissions have been obtained for any third-party Islamic texts, manuscripts, or materials, if applicable.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
